Headlights are what survives a G05 most often, and there is a reason for it. This generation of X5 was, from 2018, among the first BMWs offered with laser light, and even the standard LED unit is a device — control module, stepper motors for beam levelling, a cornering function. A front-end impact the body shrugs off will still cost you the headlight.
Fitting one involves more than four bolts. Beam levelling reports back to the car's electronics, and adaptive units need coding before the dipped beam remembers how to behave. Skip that step with a used lamp and you get light, but not the function you paid for. We take them out with the control module and brackets attached, because a headlight without either is half a part.
The generations are easy to confuse. The G05 replaced the F15 in 2018 and was reworked in 2023, and the light signature changed at both points. The X5 M F95 wears the same headlights as a G05 — it is the apron around them where the two part company.
