The U10 replaced the X2 F39 in 2023 and changed the model's character completely. The low, compact crossover became a substantially larger fastback SUV: roughly twenty centimetres longer than its predecessor, with a steeply falling roof and a tailgate that recalls a coupé more than an X1.
It shares its platform and front structure with the X1 U11, and as there, BMW builds the electric version on the same body: the iX2 is not a separate model. Doors, wings and interior are common, while the front apron, cooling, underbody and charge flap follow the drivetrain.
One of its predecessor's signatures is missing. The BMW roundels on the C-pillars that made an F39 unmistakable were not carried over, which is the quickest way to tell the generations apart.
On a model this young nearly everything comes out of accident damage, and what gets removed is electrics and interior. Control units are the awkward group, since every module carries its old car's chassis number and has to be rewritten; together with steering columns, speakers and window regulators they make up our stock.
