The G83 is the M4 Convertible from 2021, and in Europe it comes only as a Competition with xDrive — no rear-drive version, no manual. That sets it apart from the G82 coupé, which offers both, and it matters when buying used the moment driveline or front axle parts are involved.
The roof is fabric, as on the G23 and unlike its predecessor the F83 with its folding metal top. Roof mechanism, stowage and latching are identical to the ordinary 4 Series convertible; nothing from an F83 fits here. Aprons, headlights and air filter boxes come off it, the same items a G23 gives.
No M4 Convertible has ever had a carbon roof — neither the F83 nor the G83. Where the coupé carries carbon fibre, the convertible carries its folded roof.
At the front and along the flanks the G83 is a G82: wider wings, its own bumpers, its own grille surround, its own bonnet. The doors it shares with the G23.
