The X6 invented a category in 2008 that earned BMW ridicule first and imitators afterwards: the coupé-roofed SUV. The F16 is the second take on it, built from 2014 to 2019 at Spartanburg, with engines from the xDrive30d to the V8 xDrive50i.

The most important difference from the X5 F15 sits at the back and catches people out regularly: the X6 has no split tailgate. Where the X5 carries a separate upper and lower section, the F16 has one large one. The assemblies use different hinges, struts and latches and cannot stand in for each other.

At the front, though, the F15 and F16 are the same car: nose, bonnet, front wings and front doors are identical. From the B-pillar back everything is X6-specific, and the X6 M F86 adds flared wings and aprons of its own.

The bodies on these are generally healthy; what gets removed is interior and electrics — switches, ignition barrels, aerials and door cards.
