The G01 is the third-generation X3, 2017 to 2024, and the first on the CLAR architecture. It is lighter than the F25 despite being the same size, because BMW used aluminium in the doors, bonnet and suspension — which matters after an accident, since aluminium cannot be pulled straight the way steel can.
One thing dominates the parts picture: the electric iX3 (G08) is the same body. BMW did not build a separate model; it put an electric drivetrain into the G01. Doors, wings, roof, tailgate and much of the interior are common.
The differences start at the nose — the iX3's grille is blanked — and continue at the underbody, the cooling and the flap in the left rear wing. The combustion car has a fuel filler there; the electric one has a charge socket. Switches, ignition barrels and headlights are what we remove from these most often.
The 2021 facelift brought sharper headlights and a larger grille. An X4 G02 will give up its nose and front doors to a G01. The X3 M F97 will not: its wings are wider and the aprons are its own.
