What kills an F25 is almost never the body. It is the timing chain: on the N47 and N57 it sits at the back of the engine against the gearbox, and replacing it means pulling the drivetrain. On a twelve-year-old X3 that bill routinely exceeds what the car is worth — which is why the interior and the fittings from this model reach the market in surprisingly good order.

Door cards are the most rewarding of them. They sit protected, age slowly, and are usually only damaged by window-regulator repairs or water ingress. What to check is the specification: leather, Sensatec and cloth were built alongside each other, as were two generations of window switch, and the insert colour follows the donor car's interior. Door cards and boot covers are what we take off this model most often.

The F25 ran from 2010 to 2017, built at Spartanburg, and sat closer mechanically to the F10 5 Series than to the 3 Series. A 2014 facelift brought new lamps and aprons. Its successor, the G01, uses a different architecture — nothing in the body or cabin carries between them.
