The Touring of the seventh-generation 3 Series followed the saloon by a year and holds 500 litres, or around 1,500 with the rear seats down. It keeps the detail BMW has carried on the 3 Series Touring since the E46 and almost every rival has abandoned: the rear window opens on its own without swinging the whole tailgate.
That window brings its own hinges, its own struts and a latch mechanism the saloon does not have. The rear lights add a further wrinkle in being split — one half in the body side, the other in the tailgate. Settle which you need before buying.
Up to the B-pillar the G21 is identical to the G20, front doors included. After that everything is Touring: rear doors, rear quarters, roof rails and tail. The 2022 LCI applies to both, and in the cockpit the curved display makes it a hard line.
A word on mirrors, because more hangs on them than on almost any other fitting here: folding, memory, auto-dimming, puddle lights, blind-spot warning and the surround-view camera all live in the housing. Mirrors are accordingly among the parts whose specification we record before they go on the shelf.
