The 3 Series Gran Turismo was an attempt at a third body between saloon and Touring: a wheelbase eleven centimetres longer than the F30's, a taller roof, frameless doors and a large tailgate instead of a boot lid. The boot holds 520 litres, around 1,600 with the seats down. Built from 2013 to 2020 and then dropped, with the 4 Series Gran Coupé later taking the role.

Do not treat the F34 as a variant of the saloon when buying panels — on this model that is the most expensive mistake. Doors, rear quarters, roof, tailgate and rear lights exist for the GT alone. What it shares with the F30 is the front end, the interior and the electronics, and there the two genuinely interchange.

One assembly fails regularly: the extending rear spoiler, which raises itself at around 110 km/h and drops again below it. When it jams, the tailgate is usually not the problem — the mechanism inside is.

Bought as a touring car and driven like one, an F34 rarely reaches us as sheet metal. Door cards, condensers and aerials make up the stock.
