The G80 is the M3 of the seventh-generation 3 Series. Under the bonnet sits the S58, a three-litre twin-turbo straight-six making 480 hp in base form and 510 as a Competition. The base car stayed rear-driven and was the only current M3 still available with a six-speed manual; xDrive arrived in 2021, with a menu option to disengage the front axle.
The track is markedly wider than the saloon's at both ends, the suspension is its own, and the body follows: widened front wings, its own bumpers, its own bonnet and the tall vertical grille that has been argued about more than the engine.
That is exactly where the panels divide. Ahead of the A-pillar the G80 shares nothing with a G20; behind it, almost everything — doors, roof and boot lid are common parts. Inside it is mixed: seats, wheel and dials are M items while the climate panel, door handles and electronics come from the 3 Series, and the 2022 curved-display facelift applies to both alike.
In practice that means most of what we can offer for a G80 comes out of saloon stock: doors, rear lights, bonnets.
