The F80 is the M3 of the F30 generation, built from 2014 to 2018. With it the E92's high-revving naturally aspirated V8 gave way to the S55, a three-litre twin-turbo straight-six with 431 hp, or 450 as a Competition. At the same time the M3 name was reserved for the saloon for the first time, the coupé becoming the M4.
In body terms the F80 sits further from the F30 than the metal suggests. Front wings, the aluminium bonnet with its power dome, both bumpers, the sills and the mirrors on two-piece stalks are M-specific. Doors, roof and boot lid it shares with the saloon.
Inside the position reverses: seats, the wheel with its two red buttons and the instrument cluster are M items, while the climate panel, door handles, switches and much of the electronics come from the F30. That is exactly where comparing part numbers pays, because parts that look identical can be coded differently.
M3s get looked after and are rarely scrapped; what reaches us almost always comes from accident damage, and what stays usable is mostly the cabin.
