The G87 has been the M2 since 2023, and it carries a role it did not choose: the last M car you can order with a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive alone. The S58 underneath is the M3 and M4 engine, here in the shortest wheelbase in the family.
The body is drawn harder than the G42's — flat, squared-off arch extensions instead of soft transitions, big rectangular intakes, and a front end that shares no panel with the base car.
Doors, roof and boot lid stay common. The roof came two ways: steel with a sunroof, or carbon fibre without. Both were built alongside each other and they do not interchange — which makes it the first question when buying used, not the last. The first G87 parts through our door are speakers and headlights, both shared with the G42.
