The F23 is the convertible of the rear-drive 2 Series family, built from 2015 to 2021. BMW stayed with a fabric roof rather than a folding hard top: lighter, kinder to the boot, and the reason the car keeps its proportions. It opens in about twenty seconds and at up to 50 km/h.
At the front, as far as the B-pillar, the F23 is an F22 coupé. Bonnet, wings, headlights, bumper and the doors are the same parts, so front-end damage can draw on either pool. Behind that it becomes a different car: rear quarters, boot lid, rear apron and rear lights are convertible items, along with the roof stowage, frame, hydraulics and reinforced sills.
At the generation change the open 2 Series disappeared without replacement; there is no G42-based successor.
Condensers fail more than usual on open cars, sitting right at the front and taking stone damage a grille would otherwise fend off — which is why they are the commonest F23 part on our shelves.
